Speaking of the browser I experienced an annoying bug where I tried to double click a preset but the list would jump to the top after the first click. Playing 6 voices with quad detune on both oscillators activated only took 2. The reliance on saturation is a problem and the Quad oscillator detune mode feels like it needs a little work to make it more useable. Well on the most part pretty good, for me they could have been a little more intense and perhaps slightly warmer in nature. I had to fill in the form 7 times because you have to register every instrument separately though! Loom is an entirely new modular additive synthesizer.
On each oscillator you can activate quad mode which will add 3 more detuned copies of the same waveform to create huge sounds, it sounds quite fat indeed. Please leave your comments if you like the video or not, it help my channel to evolve. Usually the preset would load correctly but there were times that I had to try multiple times before I finally had selected the preset that I wanted. It reproduce nicely the sound of old soviets Synth. On the style page you can adjust the intensity- and complexity settings, the dynamics, hit variations and timing per instrument. You can select a few destinations like: note, pitch, cutoff etc.
Then there is the kit page on which you can adjust the tuning, sample starting point, attack and decay per instrument. With the mechanics function you can add several types of attack sounds to the notes which can add a nice twist to the sound. There are over 350 patches included in Loom or you can quickly create your own patches by using the intelligent randomization features. After you click the authorize button in the browser the plugin will be activated to run on that computer. However, I found the Quad oscillator mode slightly overpowering. For even more warmth, Vacuum Pro has six virtual vacuum tube circuits that add crunch and grit at every stage of the signal path. But I loved the tape delay most of all, giving you that great characteristic overdriven delay sound.
The keyboard layout is as follows: on the bottom octave you can mute the individual drum parts, on the next 3 octaves you can trigger drum patterns and fills and on the upper octave you can trigger the individual drum sounds if you want to play your own patterns. The first time I installed one of the instruments I clicked the next button on the install wizard expecting to be asked to select a directory but instead it started installing immediately into the default folder as set by the developer. Firstly there are normal audio loops, secondly there are sliced loops like. The audio recorder can record the main output for up to 4 bars and you can then drag this as audio onto a track in your daw. Furthermore you can determine how much of each instrument you want to send to the overhead and room mics.
The main thing to know about Vacuum Pro is that is packs no less than six virtual valve stages. Intuitive color-coding makes the Loom graphical user interface easy to understand. You have to click and drag the points in the envelope display, I prefer regular knobs or faders because now you have to be really precise with the mouse to click on the tiny points. But despite those issues, this is a powerful synth which can turn its hand to a wide range of sounds. I failed to notice this at the start of my review process and failed to pick it up in a 32-bit version of Logic Pro. Best of all, the Easy Sound Design Page reduces the dozens of front panel knobs down to eight, grouping related controls together for rapid results.
Vacuum Pro is an impressive synth, and enjoyable to use, but there are minor issues. Programming Powerhouse Vacuum Pro comes complete with 350+ tweakable patches created by acclaimed sound designers Richard Devine and Mark Ovenden. Vacuum Pro is a powerful combination of two separate synthesizer parts that can be stacked, split, and layered to produce big, wide, and fat analog sounds. The Vacuum Pro Concept Vacuum Pro is a virtual analogue, subtractive synthesizer with two oscillators, two filters, plenty of modulation options and handful of very useable effects. Speaking of the tube distortion emulation it sounds quite good and a moderate amount of drive really does add some thickness to the sound. Plus, Quad Detune controls per oscillator make it easy to quickly dial in lush sounds.
In addition, the Parts Lock feature allows the current settings of any modules both parts to be retained when changing sounds, providing a fast way to combine elements from different patches. The first time I installed one of the instruments I clicked the next button on the install wizard expecting to be asked to select a directory but instead it started installing immediately into the default folder as set by the developer. The interface is populated by single-function knobs, delivering a vintage feel that reflects the rich analog flavor of the instrument. Click on the different category headings to find out more and change our default settings. It comes with 350+ tweakable patches programmed by legendary sound designers for instant inspiration.
With this new synth out and about and available to the majority of users, we thought it would be worth taking a closer look to determine whether or not it can stand out in an already crowded world of virtual analogue synthesizers. A very good electric piano emulator, a loop workstation for when you need some inspiration or feel experimental, a nice sampler plugin that comes with some decent bread and butter sounds and finally a virtual drummer with a very clever drumming engine inside. Here are some interesting presets I selected: Strike is a virtual drummer plugin, not only does it contain a lot of drum kits and drum patterns, but it also has intelligent functions to add realtime human-like variations to these drum patterns. Modulation Options There are a number of ways to modulate your patches within Vacuum Pro, amongst them are four dedicated envelopes: one for the amp, two for the filters and an extra one for modulation. So I had to jump through hoops to finally get them installed. We were slightly disappointed by the lack of a single 'shell' for installation too. Four-oscillators with vacuum tube circuit modeling! Custom morphing paths can be plotted using points and segments.
